The Growing Room Story

My name is Emilia Prodanova. Bulgarian-born and bred, I now live in South Birmingham and offer garden design services in and around Kings Heath, Moseley, and the surrounding areas. I am passionate about plants and gardens, cultivating growing spaces and creating beauty.

My gardening journey began with buying a couple of house plants, which I nurtured for a year on the windowsill of a featureless bedsit in Madison, Wisconsin, but the gardening 'bug' really took hold of me when I relocated to the UK in 1994. My first two plastic containers with daffodils, ranged on the concrete patio of my rented property, brought enormous joy and sparked in me a continuing gardening curiosity. I wanted to know everything about plants and how to grow them. My expanding love of all things green led me to designing and planting my own garden, and eventually to qualifying as a garden designer at Pershore College.

I believe that sustainability should be a leading consideration in creating any garden, that gardens, gardening and green spaces should be indispensable parts of human life, our homes and our built environment, and that gardens are not just decorative afterthoughts but central to our well-being and the environment at large.
